One of the best ways to stay on top of your child's health is the annual Well Child Visit. These visits are offered by all primary care providers (with or without DukeWELL). Well Child Visits allow your child’s doctor to talk to you about your child’s health and check for any health needs.

The annual Well Child Visit offers a great time to get caught up on your child's immunizations. See below for recommended screenings and immunizations:

Visits for newborns to 5-year-olds will include full check ups to screen for things like:

  • Vision & hearing quality
  • Anemia & lead levels
  • Obesity
  • Autism
  • Your child’s developmental progress

Visits may also include immunizations against:

  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Diptheria
  • Tetanus
  • Acellular Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Influenza Type B
  • Pneumococcal
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Chickenpox

Visits for ages 6 to 18 include full check ups to screen for things like:

  • Vision
  • Hearing
  • Obesity
  • Depression

Visits may also include immunizations against:

  • Human papilloma virus (HPV)
  • Meningitis
  • Tetanus booster

NOTE: For teens, the Well Child Visit offers a chance to grow into healthy and responsible adulthood. Showing teens how to adhere to regular health checks sets the stage for their independence, and it helps them learn about wellness issues that will become increasingly important as they get older.
